Bunthorne and Oscar Wilde

The Dolphin Dragons last asked this question in Week 7 of the 2016–17 season (29 November 2016; General Knowledge, Question 14). As I pointed out on that occasion, "According to Wikipedia, the suggestion that Bunthorne was intended to satirise Oscar Wilde is a popular misconception."

Wikipedia cites an article on the Gilbert & Sullivan Archive website, written by one Andrew Crowther – "author of the major biography Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan" – and posted in 2009.

Please note that the Macc QL website was not available online in 2016, so the Dragons probably haven't seen my previous comment.
